“ Res Publica : citizenship and political representation in Portugal, 1820-1926 ”

The Assembleia da República has signed a protocol with Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal in order to organize a number of initiatives scheduled for 2010, on the occasion of the Commemoration of the Republic 100 th Anniversary. In this context, the exhibition Res Publica: Cidadania e representação política em Portugal, 1820-1926 is being organized.
The Commissioners are Fernando Catroga and Pedro Tavares de Almeida.
The exhibition shows and raises issues related to the process of the historical construction of citizenship and the representative institutions, from the constitutional monarchy to the end of the First Republic. Besides the documental and iconographic aspects of the parliamentary and political activity, the spaces of the Parliament (maquettes) and other parliamentary materials (seals, stamps, pens, Deputies’ books, ballot boxes, clothes) will be on display.
